During a press briefing held in the vibrant neighborhood of Harlem, the governor expressed that she has already initiated the groundwork for her upcoming campaign.
“I am extremely satisfied with our current progress and even though 2026 might seem distant, I am officially in the race,” Hochul stated. “I am laying the foundation for that campaign, but my immediate attention is on the upcoming November elections.”
Hochul, a proud native of Western New York, assumed her gubernatorial role in 2021, following the resignation of her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo. This historic event marked her as the first woman to hold the governor’s office in the state of New York.
The 2026 campaign will not be Hochul’s first gubernatorial race. In 2022, she went head-to-head with the Republican candidate, Lee Zeldin.
