Despite the looming threat of intermittent showers at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park on Sunday, the dedicated track crew tirelessly worked to maintain the racing surface, ensuring the event could go ahead.
Their relentless efforts, coupled with a slight reshuffling of the scheduled races, proved fruitful for Gavin Eisele.
The regular racer from CanAm Speedway seized the lead during a lap 13 restart, skillfully navigated through lapped traffic, and held his ground during a late-race restart to secure his first-ever DIRTcar Sportsman Series victory.
“This victory means the world to me,” Eisele expressed. “We’ve been on the brink of success so many times, and finally, we managed to get everything right and clinch the win.”
Despite the best efforts of the crew, only the 40-lap Sportsman Series feature and the Junior Slingshot features were completed on Sunday. The 35-lap 358 Modified main event was underway when the rain returned, forcing the race to be declared official with 22-laps completed.
The Junior Slingshot victory was claimed by Preston Trautschold, followed by Alex Cosselman, Ayna Sarpriacone, Kolton Gamble, and Carson Hamlin.
The rain-shortened 358-modified feature was won by Brett Graham, with Tucker O’Connor, CJ Castelletti, Lance Willix, and Andrew Buff rounding out the top five.
The sportsman field was led to the green flag by Tyler Bobar and Zach Sobotka, with Bobar taking an early lead.
The race’s first yellow flag was raised on lap three, allowing Sobotka to line up alongside Bobar and seize the lead.
Sobotka managed to distance himself from the pack, but his lead was short-lived as he ran into lapped traffic.
Bobar caught up with Sobotka and was poised to retake the lead when calamity struck.
Exiting turn four, D.J. Robinson and Ron Delease Jr. collided on the front stretch, blocking the track and leaving Bobar and Sobotka with no escape route.
While Sobotka was able to rejoin the race, Bobar’s car sustained significant damage and was retired for the night.
Eisele took over the lead and managed to pull away from Nick Root after the restart.
Root managed to close the gap on Eisele as he caught up with the back of the field. However, each time Root attempted to overtake Eisele on the top, Eisele cleverly slipped past lap cars on the inside lane to extend his lead.
Root had one final chance to overtake Eisele following a red flag for a severe crash involving Ryan Barrett, Greg Brinklow, and Taylor Wason on Lap 37. However, with clear air ahead, Eisele proved too strong and held on to claim the $1,500 prize.
Root had to settle for second place, followed by Derrick McGrew Jr., Cody McPherson, and Cody Ochs, who won the first DIRTcar Series race at The Ridge this year, in fifth place.

Utica-Rome is switching to Saturday night this week for the Cole Cup, featuring the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) 360 Sprint Cars and the final leg of the six-race Thunder on the Thruway Series.
The series finale will be headlined by a $4,000-to-win main event for the modifieds, a $1,500-to-win event for the Crate 602 Sportsman division, and a $1,000-to-win Pro Stock feature.
The gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps starting at 6 p.m. and the races commencing at 7 p.m. The grandstand admission fee is $25.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway took a scheduled summer break and did not host any races on Saturday night. The action will resume this week with double features for all divisions and Kiddie Rides.
