Don’t let Halloween misconceptions deter you from pet adoption — Animal Chronicles

For ages, black cats ‍have been ‍unfairly stigmatized. We ⁤at the Animal Protective⁣ Foundation believe it’s high time to dispel these misconceptions.

With Halloween around the corner and black cats becoming the highlight of decorations throughout the⁢ Capital Region, we’re honoring these dark-furred companions for what they truly are:​ amazing pets seeking⁣ warm and loving homes.

There have been rumors about shelters halting‍ black-cat adoptions ​during Halloween. This eerie tale has been a specter in animal welfare ⁣circles for ‌a long time. ⁢However, the⁤ truth is: Veterinary schools and​ organizations, including the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States, ⁤unanimously agree that there’s no proof that‍ black cats are at a higher risk during the Halloween period.

“This is a topic that the animal welfare sector has thoroughly investigated,” stated Joe Lisella, executive director at APF. “Our findings indicate that blocking adoptions actually‌ endangers the very cats we ⁣aim to safeguard.‌ By keeping black cats in shelters for extended periods, we inadvertently heighten their stress⁢ levels and diminish their ⁤chances of finding a loving home.”

At APF, we’re not⁣ just dispelling myths, we’re ​celebrating these splendid pets. Did you ⁢know that ​black cats are⁢ often the last to be adopted due to outdated superstitions? ⁣Yet, they are ‌as affectionate,⁢ playful, and endearing⁤ as cats ⁣of any ‍other color. Interestingly, in many cultures, black cats are⁢ seen as lucky. ⁤In Japan, they are thought to bring wealth, and in the‍ British Isles, a black cat crossing your path​ is considered ‌a⁣ sign ⁤of ‌good luck.

Currently, we have several charming black cats, ⁢including Gemma, eagerly waiting‍ for their forever homes. Like all our adorable ​pets up for⁢ adoption, ⁢they aren’t concerned about the time ​of year — they just want to share their love with a ​family that will love them back.

Remember, ⁢adopting a pet is a long-term commitment that goes beyond the ⁤adoption day.​ Our animal care team spends quality time with every potential adopter to ⁤ensure a perfect⁣ match, regardless ⁣of the date or the⁣ color of the ​pet’s fur.
